Keeping Kids Safe with Church Activities

Aug 17, 2008 Author: admin | Filed under: General

We all know that one of the best ways to keep young people off the streets and away from a life of crime, it to give them a positive place to spend their time. What better place for impressionable young individuals to spend their time, than church? Some churches offer a daily place for children of the community to spend their free time, while others spend time with the young people of the community through organized church outings.

If your church can afford to have someone there for the children at all times that is wonderful. However, most community churches do not have the funds to pay to have the heating and air on all of the time and most members of the church have prior commitments. In cases such as these, perhaps you could open the doors to the young people of the community once a week or even just once a month. Some church activity is better than none at all.

Another good idea to keep young people active in the church is to offer regular scheduled church outings as often as possible. Search for a Christian travel article directory to get a few ideas as to what kind of trip would best suit the youths in your specific group. You will be able to browse through some helpful information in the form of back packing articles and many others. Be sure to look through the hotels and accommodations articles to ensure that all of your bases have been covered.

It Was a Pitcher’s Game as the Mets Won 3-1

Jul 25, 2008 Author: admin | Filed under: General

It felt like the big game when the New York Mets took over first place with a three to one win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Oliver Perez, the starting pitcher for the New York Mets, is known to be somewhat shaky at time, but today his pitching was right on the money. Oliver Perez pitched all of seven innings and most of an eighth, striking out twelve batters and walking one. Only one run was given up while Oliver Perez was on the mound.

The only run scored by the Philadelphia Phillies came when Jayson Werth slammed one way out into dead center.

The starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, Jamie Moyer, had a good day as well. Jamie Moyer pitched for seven innings. He struck out six batters and let two hits and one run get by him. The run came when David Wright hit a single that brought in Jose Reyes.

After Jamie Moyer had pitched his seven inning, J. C. Romero was called to the mound for an eighth inning by Charlie Manuel. His time on the mound was not quite as spectacular has his predecessor. There was a Cancel single out to left and he intentionally walked David Wright. Carlos Delgado came up to the plate and hit a double right down the line of left field, the two-run play shot the Mets into the lead.

New York Railways

May 30, 2008 Author: admin | Filed under: Transport

Millions of people ride the railways of New York’s metro system every day. These millions of people could very well be putting their lives in danger by using the aging system. This week the New York Times released a report that brought out some scary findings.

The reporters found that the escalators of the system broke down quite frequently over the last year, almost seventy times in fact. At least once a year, people are trapped in one of the system’s two hundred elevators that have a tendency to stop unexpectedly.

The inadequately trained employees are just the beginning of this troubled system. With no background experience and only four weeks of training, the employees are far from qualified.

Passengers of the railway describe the system as loud, dirty and crowded. One passenger said that the system in New York is worse than the railway systems in other countries like England and France. Other passengers complain of floods that leave standing puddles everywhere. The odor is also a complaint among riders of the railway system.

The Metropolitan Transit Authority had a quiet reaction to the report by the New York Time. They claim that steps have been taken over the last twenty years to improve the system.

Let’s face it, the Lotto is something most of us have tried our luck on, and most times it’s either a waste of money, or you just win back what you made. And I’m sure we’ve all dreamed about hitting it big, winning millions and fantasying on what we’d do with the money. The following is about a New York woman who works at Emma’s Deli and Catering won it big, not once, but twice.
For the second time, a New York deli worker has won the $1 Million lotto jackpot. Playing the Cool Million and Jubilee scratch-off tickets worked for her. Valerie Wilson, 56, won the very first ticket in a 1 in 5.2 Million odds and this time around she faced a 1 in 705,600 odds. Beating all odds the woman won her first million back in 2002, and just last month she won her second.

Fire in Syracuse Kills Mother and Two Children

Apr 12, 2008 Author: admin | Filed under: News

About a half hour past four in the morning on Wednesday, Syracuse firefighters received the call for a small structure fire. Within minutes, the team of firefighters was able to extinguish the blaze. However, the flames were not put out in time to save the lives of 32-year-old Lisa Epolito and her two young children, 9-year-old Joseph Sgroi and 6-year-old Julia Sgroi.

According to reports, the boyfriend of the mother, Sean Chetney claims to have been sleeping on the couch while Lisa Epolito was preparing a meal in the kitchen of their home. He woke up when he heard Lisa screaming from the other room for him to get out of the house. 30-year-old Sean Chetney and Lisa Epolito’s 11-year-old daughter were able to successfully escape the burning house.

Although the exact cause of the fire is not known at this time, investigators of the fire have determined that the flames did begin in the kitchen area of the home. Information on the status of smoke detectors in the house was not presently available.

Syracuse firefights say that Lisa Epolito was found in the living room of the house. Both of the children were found in the hallway upstairs. Joseph Sgroi died early that morning at an area hospital. Lisa Epolito and Julia Sgroi died hours later.

New York City Schools to Expect Budget Cut

Apr 11, 2008 Author: admin | Filed under: General, Schools

The New York City Department of Education has comprised a list of schools that will have to make cuts to their budget. The seventy-four schools on the list that was released this week include some of the city’s most highly esteemed high schools. The schools on the list will be required to cut their budget by over five percent for the next school year.

Most of the schools listed are high schools as well as some middle schools. Some of the schools on the list are Stuyvesant High School with a budget cut of 5.32%; Bronx High School of Science’s budget will be cut by 5.34%, along with many other highly popular schools in the city.

Over two-thirds of the schools listed are some of the new schools Mayor Bloomberg created as part of his plan to revamp the school system. As a matter of fact, several of these schools are not expected to open until this school year beginning in September.

The budget cuts being made to these schools stand a great chance of causing devastation for the students. The loss of funds will most likely prompt school officials to cut back on extracurricular activities. One principal even has plans to shorten the number of courses available to students.
