New York City Schools to Expect Budget Cut
Posted on 11. Apr, 2008 by admin.
The New York City Department of Education has comprised a list of schools that will have to make cuts to their budget. The seventy-four schools on the list that was released this week include some of the city’s most highly esteemed high schools. The schools on the list will be required to cut their budget by over five percent for the next school year.
Most of the schools listed are high schools as well as some middle schools. Some of the schools on the list are Stuyvesant High School with a budget cut of 5.32%; Bronx High School of Science’s budget will be cut by 5.34%, along with many other highly popular schools in the city.
Over two-thirds of the schools listed are some of the new schools Mayor Bloomberg created as part of his plan to revamp the school system. As a matter of fact, several of these schools are not expected to open until this school year beginning in September.
The budget cuts being made to these schools stand a great chance of causing devastation for the students. The loss of funds will most likely prompt school officials to cut back on extracurricular activities. One principal even has plans to shorten the number of courses available to students.
