New York Railways

Millions of people ride the railways of New York’s metro system every day. These millions of people could very well be putting their lives in danger by using the aging system. This week the New York Times released a report that brought out some scary findings.

The reporters found that the escalators of the system broke down quite frequently over the last year, almost seventy times in fact. At least once a year, people are trapped in one of the system’s two hundred elevators that have a tendency to stop unexpectedly.

The inadequately trained employees are just the beginning of this troubled system. With no background experience and only four weeks of training, the employees are far from qualified.

Passengers of the railway describe the system as loud, dirty and crowded. One passenger said that the system in New York is worse than the railway systems in other countries like England and France. Other passengers complain of floods that leave standing puddles everywhere. The odor is also a complaint among riders of the railway system.

The Metropolitan Transit Authority had a quiet reaction to the report by the New York Time. They claim that steps have been taken over the last twenty years to improve the system.
